Chapter 1
Stuck, Lost and Scared
The beep of the machine echoed through the room as the faint rise and fall of her chest was all that could be seen. Her room was empty completely abandoned, how could this be, so much for family. She looks so fragile, alone and lost. How different to what she normally is, full of confidence, untouchable, someone you wouldn’t want to cross. What a transformation, but how had it happened.. Hmm that is a very good question but to get to the answer you need to know the past.. Hmm the past that is a INTRESTING one to say the least. I guess I should start about 20 years ago…
It was summer, children laughing and joking, with water fights and ice creams and why not they had no worries, everything was fine well at least In till they had to go back to school at least. Everything was so simple and easy for them, young kids no cares or worries well the ones they had were only about school and dates so compared to hers well they were low on the scale to say the least. How had she got herself in to this situation, why had she? All the answers that she thought she had all of a sudden drained from her head, she didn’t have a clue not only about why she was in this position but also about what she was going to do to get out of it.
“VERONICA MITCHELL! ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME?!” Glenda snapped as she stormed up the stairs. Ronnie closed the curtain to her room and just snapped herself out of her trance, she pulled her cover up over her belly and just starred at the door waiting for her mother to burst on through. Sure enough within seconds Glenda burst on through.
“Ronnie are you deaf or something?” Glenda protests as she walks in the room and sees the look on her daughters face. “Sweetheart?.. What’s going on? You aint been right for ages. Come on, you can’t tell me your still feeling ill.. Ronnie?” Glenda continues with a much softer tone in her voice as she sits down on the edge of her eldest daughters bed. Ronnie’s eyes are glazed over with a sea of fear and a mist of loss. Glenda tilts her head and gently runs her hand to Ronnie’s chin and lifts it slightly she smiles sweetly at her daughter.
“It’s me babes, you know Mum, Glenda Mitchell?” She giggles softly trying to get Ronnie to react in someway. Glenda lets out a soft sigh and rubs Ronnie’s cheek gently “Look I know thing have been tough lately what with me and your dad.. Being.. Well at each others throats.. All the time but sweetie you shouldn’t worry about it. It is anything but you or Roxy’s fault. So how about you get up, get dressed come downstairs and I’ll cook you some breakfast and then me and you can spend a girly day together shopping how does that sound?” Glenda offers in a last ditch attempt to try and get her daughter to speak or even flinch. Ronnie shakes her head as she tries to clear it of her thoughts.
“Yeah.. Yeah sounds good mum” Ronnie beams with that ever present fake smile that she had learnt to paint perfectly all her life and finally had down to a tea. Glenda smiles and pats her hand as she stands up.
“Right well I will go and get breakfast ready you get yourself sorted out and come down in a bit.” Glenda informs her as she wanders over to the bedroom door and goes out ready to leave. Ronnie watches her and then calls out
“Mum!”
“Yeah sweetie?” Glenda replies gently smiling at her, Ronnie shakes her head.
“Nothing.. Just no fry ups okay?” Ronnie says changing her mind and trying to make a joke out of her no point sentence. Glenda smiles and nods.
“Sure thing honey” Glenda then heads downstairs. As she leaves Ronnie lays her head back on her pillows as she curls up on her side in to a ball, her heart sinks in her chest as it tightens around her lungs. Ronnie runs her hands up her cheeks to her eyes where she lets out a heartbroken sigh as everything in her life just seems to be falling apart and she has no idea how to even begging going about stopping it.
“I should of told her, was the perfect time!” Ronnie snaps to herself as she flings the cover off of herself to the floor and sits up on the side of the bed just pulling her long blonde hair back over her head and looking down in between her legs as she tries to think straight.
“Right, day with mum, beats school and having to face Joel I guess” She again thinks to herself as she stands up and without realising it places a quivering hand to her belly and wandering over to her wardrobe to start picking out her outfit to wear for that day.
“Something baggy” She thought to herself once more “Which is a pain considering it is boiling!” She tuts to the situation she is in and then just riffles through her stuff.
