Mel: Who lives there?
Tina and Sharon: I don't know.
Mel: Dan's got contacts all over the place.
Tina: Johnny may have left something in the club.
Sharon: Good idea, let's go there then.

Cut to Scarlett.

Mel: Found anything?
Sharon: No.
Tina: Wait what's this?
Sharon goes to the drawer. "It's a gun".
Mel: Thatdoesn't prove anything. Johnny may keep one in the club to protect himself.
Tina: True.
Mel: Wait Here's something.
Sharon: What?
Mel: a map.
Tina: It's torn into pieces.
Sharon: We'll reassmble them.
Tina: I feel like a detective.
Mel: Yeah this is detective work.
They reassemle the pieces.
Tina: What is it a map of?
Mel: I don't know.
Sharron: I do.
Mel: What?
I'll tell you afterwards, let's turn it over, aybe there are directions.
Mel turns it over, "Yes, there are".
Tina: Its blurred.

Mel: There might be omething in my flat.
Tina: Let's go there then.

Cut to Mel and Dan's Flat.

Mel: Dan's gun's gone.
Tina: Does he keep a gun in the house?
Mel: Yes, it's always in that drawer, it's not there now.
Sharon: Maybe we'd better go to this address, and then if we can rad the mp we'll follow it but it is the place where Daltonwas shot so it shouldn't be hard to trace.
Mel and Tina: Ok, lead the way Sharon.

Thursday 7.30 Opening Music

(In the wood)

Mel: Where are we Sharon?
Sharon: The place where Jack Daton was killed.
Tina: Who is Jack Dalton?
Sharon: A gangster who was killed.
Mel: I saw something about that on the news. Wasn't his body found in the woods?
Sharon: Yes, it was.
Tina: It's so quiet here, it unerves me.
Mel: What was that?
Sharon: Don't worry only an owl.
Mel: This address anywhere nearby?
Sharon: A quarter of a mile right, from the wood.
Tina: You meanyou turn right and walk a quarter of a mile?
Sharon: Yes but you have to walk through the wood first.
Mel: Damn.
Tina: Let's get going then.

They walk through the wood but are eventually lost.

Tina: Mel?
Mel: yes I'm here, and Sharon?
Sharon: Here.
Mel: We'd better all stick together, we don't want to be seperated.
Sharon: No.
(someone screams)
Sharon: What was that?
Mel: It wasn't me, was it you Tina?
Tina: No it wasn't.
Sharon: It wasn't me either, it may have come from that direction. Let's all hold hands and walk there.

The three of them walk towards the sound.

Dan, Johnny and Dennis are fighting with a couple of gangsters. Packets of drugs and ciggarettes lie scattered around themThe three women are drawn into the fight and ar standing between the fighting men.

Mel: What a mess.

Sharon picks up Dan's gun and steps in to defend her husband. Tina and Mel have no guns but Mel shields Dan and Tina shields Johnny.

Dennis: haron what are you doing here?
Sharon: Trying to defend you.
Dennis: You're not safe here.
Sharon: 'm yourt wife.
Dennis I should be protecting you, these men are vicious.

Tina: Johny what's going on?
Johnny: Dennis and myself both ot dragged into this dangerous job.
Tina: But I thought Dan wanted you to sort Dennis out for killing Dalton?
Johnny: Yes, he did, I went round to the bookies with my un but Dennis talked me out of it, we put the gun back in Scarlett and came here.
Tina what about this gang?
Johnny: I don't know. I was given a map and an address by Dan, I gave Dennis the address. We were heading towards it when we met Dan in the woods and he looked livid and then this gang ambushed us.

Mel: Dan, what's going on?
Dan: Keep away from this gang, they are dangerous.
Mel: I have a right to defend you, you're my husband.
Dan: You're pregnant.
Mel: But it's not yours, it's Steve's.
Mel: I know but still.

The fight begins to become a deadlock ut then another man steps in from the wood to defend Johnny, Dan, Dennis, Tina, Sharon and Mel.

Mel: Am I seeing a ghost?
Sharon: What is it?
Dan: He looks like your ex husband Mel.
Tina: So?
Mel: but he's dead.

The unknown tackles two gangsters at once and brings out his own gun. During the mass of fighting, Sharon accidentally fires at a gangster and then recognises his face - "Grant" - Grant falls to the ground but there is no ime to speak. Sharon passes the Gun to Tina.

A man goes to attack Johnny ut Tina aims and fires. A third man shoves Mel roughly causing herto fall but she recognises him "Phil" - unfortunately Phil is killed by Johnny Allen before he can say anything.

Phil and Grant having fallen the othergagsters flee leaving a ess of drugs and ciggarettes and a few guns behind them, th women relax and Sharon hugs Dennis in silence, numb t the deatgh she has caused while Tina hugs Johnny temporarily limp with shock while Mel faints and falls to the ground while Dan phones an ambulance.

Ambulance: "So what's the trouble mate?"

Dan: "My wife has fainted,"

Ambulance: "So what happened here then?"

Johnny: "We were walking through the woods. Myself, Dennis and Dan were planning to meet our wies here and then this gang came and ambushed us. In the struggle two gangsters were accidentally shot."

Ambulance: I'm afraid you'll all have to come with us for observation. Also we need to tell the police."

Cut to Holby City Casualty department.

Tess: "Mr Rickman, Mrs Riickman, Mr Allen, Mrs Allen -
Johnny: "She's not my wife. She's my fiancee, Tina.
Tess: Ok Tina, and Mr Sulivan I think you had better wait in the recetion area. Sam will take your names and contact details. Then we'll have a doctor examine you all just in case."
Dan: "What about my wife?"
Tess: "We have taken her to Holby Emergency Department. I know she regaied consiousness in the ambulance thanks to ina and Josh but then she collapsed almoist immediately so w had to take her to the emergency department. Leave your names and contact detai;ls with Sam and then I'll send for you as soon as we have doctors free.

(They give their names and contact details to Sam and then sit down.

Sharon: "I can't believe I shot Grant".
Dennis: "I know he was your ex darling".
Sharon: "I feel all trembly Dennis".
Dennis: "When you kill someone you do feel shalky afterwards."
Sharon: "Was that what it was like with Dalton?"
Dennis: "I don't know. I just felt numb inside for days after Idid it but then I had to do it so I had to be strong. After a while I came to terms with it".
Sharon: "It must have been horrible to kill someone whom you'd known for years, who brought you up".
Dennis: "Yes, it was".
Sharon: "I don't know how to cope with killing. I just don't know".

Dennis hugs her.

Dennis: "Sharon, we are going to get through this - you and me together."
Sharon: "Will I be sent to prison?"
Dennis: "No I don't think so. As far as thev police are concerned if a gun goes off accidentally during a struggle then there is no realway of knowing who fred so hopefully nobody will be blamed."
Sharon: "What would you do Dennis, if I were sent to prison?"
Dennis: "I would take the rap for Phil's murder and join my darling wife in jail. Together forever. Do you think I could bear to be outside the prison while you were in it? I would join you there - sooner rather than later."
Sharon: "Oh Dennis you make me cry."
Dennis: "I will always love you, you know. You're my soul."
Sharon: "I love you too".

Tina: "Johnny"
Johnny: "Yes"
Tina: "Will you tell the polce you killed Phil?"
Johnny: "No"
Tina: "But how will you explain this then?"
Johnny: "Just what I said to the ambulance. I was oing to meet my girlfriend in the woods. Dan and Dennis were meeting up with their wives. This gang attacked us. All the drugs and cigarettes fell outof their bags. Inthe chaos the guns went off accidentally, killing Phil and Grant. As soon as their leaders fell, the gang fled and Dan called the ambulance because Mel faiinted."

Abs comes in.

Doctor Coldwell and myself will examine you all, come this way will you?"

All get up and follow Abs but Tess detains Dan.

Tess: "Mr Sulivan, I'd like a word."

Dan: "yes?"

Tess: "You can see your wife now only she's feeling very shaky."

Dan: "Why?"

Tess: "I'm reallysorry Mr Sulivan but Melanie Sulivan lost her baby just now - miscarried."

Dan: "i saw her, she still feels a bit shaky. I know the baby wasn't mine but her late husband's but still...
Tina: I know, You feel about the baby as I do about Ruby."
Dan: Yes. Mel's spending a few more days inhospital of course, they want to monitor her".

Cut to Casualty deparment.

Abs: "Martin, how are you feeling?"
Martin: "I don't know".
Sonia: "Is he ill?"
Abs: "We'll give him a few tests and then see if we can diagnose anything, I'll let you know".

Anthony: "Dad"
Patrick: "Yes"
Anthony: "You seem very quiet".
Patrick: "I was just thinking about Paul"
Anthony: "I do too sometimes, how much things have changed".
Patrick: "Yes"

Jane: "I have breast cancer?"
Tess: "Yes, not only that - it as spread quite severely"

Tes: "Uner nomal circumstances you would have had an operation to remove one breast, more likely both but as it's spread..."
Jane: "Are you telling me that I will die?"
Tess: "I'm sorry, but I'm afraid you do not have long to live. It could be six months, it could be longer".
Jane: "Is there nothing that can be done?"
Tess: "Nothing - just wait thts all. I'm really sorry. There is nothing we can do."
Jane: "Will there be much pain?"
Tess: "At the end- yes. Is there anyone you'd like us to contact?"

Minty: "No need, I'll take a cab".
Garry: "Well, good luck."

In the park.
Lisa: "Mel. Mel."

Lisa checks Ml's pulse and picks up her mobile. Dials 999 "Ambulance please. It's my friend, she's tajen a...."

Mel stirs behind her and then speaks "Hang up"

Lisa hangs up.

Lisa: "Oh Mel you did give me a scare. Did you take them? You didn't did you? What were they?"

Mel (faintly): "Sleeping pills. the bottle was only half full."

Lisa lifts Mel and seeing a nearby shed open takes her there.

Lisa: "I don't know who this shed belongs to but I'm sure it will be ok if we borrowed it or a while."

Mel comes round and sits propped up on a chair.

Lisa: "Why did you do it Mel?"
Mel: "Because I'm a useless loser"
Lisa: "You'ere not"
Mel: "I am"
Lisa: "Was it the miscarriage?"
Mel: "Yes."
Lisa: "Didn't you talk to Dan about it?"
Mel: "He begged me to but I didn't".
Lisa: "I had a miscarriage too - ages ago, when I used to be with Phil."
Mel: "I know"
Lisa: "Do you want to talk about it?"
Mel: "Maybe, yes."
Lisa: "I was suicidal myelf once. Den Watts - he saved me, he counselled me and calmed me down and then I gave him the pills and choose Louise. I was really onto the bottle then ecause I thought I couldn't have Louise".
Mel hugs her.
Mel: "Miscarriages are horrible."
Lisa: "Yes, they are."
Mel: "I loned and longed to have that baby. It was Steve's remember. I thought I was bringing to life something that was part of him".
Lisa: "I often think of my child that died, whether it woul have been a he or a she, Louise's little brother or sister".
Mel: "And the baby clothes and tioys and feeding it, bathing it, rocking it to sleep".
Lisa: "I know you won't believe it but it will get easier by and by. Don't overdose and rink Mel, please don't. I know it is difficult to come to terms with a loss. You remember that dream I told you of - my dad holding the baby and getting into the offin. I used to have nightmares. Mel, it's true you ostthe aby but you have your husband and you have friends who will be there for you".
Lisa hugs Mel.

Lisa: "I need you, Dan needs you."
Mel: "I know. Was it very selfish of me to try i?"
Lisa: "No,it was natural under the circumstances."
Mel: "You're a good mate Lisa"

Mel cries on her shoulder.

Lisa: "It will be alright. I'm here".

Ian sits next to her and takes her hand.

Ian: "I'll always be here for you Jane".

Jane: "Ian?"
Ian: "Yes Jane?
Jane: I don't want to deteriorate and die slowly in great pain.
Ian: No I know you don't but...
Jane: "Ian can I ask you...? Wll you....?
Ian: "Yes, if that is what you want, if it will make you happy then yes".
Jane: "But you might go to prison."
Ian: "I don't care. I want you to be happy".
Jane: "Thanks Ian"

Cut to Casualty department

Abs: "We are going to discharge Martin now."
Pauline: "Will he need medication?"
Abs: "Yes he will and you must make sure he takes it regularly."
Sonia: "We will. I'm a trained nurse, I can help him."
Abs: "Then, good luck".
Pauline: "Thanks doctor"

cut to Slaters.

Bellinda: "I'm sick of this Neville. You don't do anything right."
Neville: " Just because I sold the stall tops half price".
Bellinda: "But that's not all. You don't cook properly. Yesterday you burnt the sausages. Today the mutton is overcooked onone side and raw on the other. I tell you to buy meat and you bring fish. I ask you to buy cabbage and you bring lettuce".
Neville: "Nobody's perfect".
Bellinda: "You exspeate me. What about all those affairs and drunken one night stands and the gambling and betting on horses? I'm sick of it".
Neville: "Where are you going?"
Bellinda: "Out to clear my head."

Lisa: How are you feeling?
Mel: Better, thanks Lis'
Lisa: "I know what will cheer you up. I'll do your nils for you."
Mel: "What?"
Lisa: "At the nail bar, I own it now, I'l give you a new hairstyle too."
Mel: "That would be nice".

Cut to park. It is dark by now and Bellinda is walking back from the park swings, as she walks in he dark, she gets mugged and crying she stumbles to Garry's flat and knocks. Garry opens the door.

Bellinda: "Oh Garry, I was so frightened."
Garry: What is it? You look shaky.Come in."
Bellinda: "I've been mugged."

Bellinda weeps on Garry's shoulder and then in a high emotional state they feel attracted to each other and kiss.

Garry (hands her a cup of tea) "Here you go."

Bellinda sits up in bed. "We shouldn't have done this".

Garry: "I know."

Bellinda drinks the tea. Garry sits beside her and puts her arm round her.

Bellinda: "Oh Garry I was so frightened when I was mugged."

Garry: "I know. Look Belle what happened last night just happened. It was a one night stand, a one off, don't let it get uinthe way of our friendship".

Bellinda: "No I won't. Neville may be a prat but he certainly didn't deserve to be cheated on but you're right Garry, what happened happened and what Neille doesn't know won't hurt him. We'll just keep quiet and remain friends. Deal?"

Garry: "Deal"

Bellinda: "You know Garry, I often think Kat and myself are of the same type. Outwardly we flirt a lot and have similar fashion ideas but inwardly we are not as strong as we make out".

Garry: "That's true".

Belinda: "So you're free from Lynne now?"

Garry: Yeah

Bellinda: "I'm sorry."

Garry: "Don't worry about it. That's all in the past now. I don't think Lynne and I were suited uch. We just drifted apart after a while."

Belinda: "Have you found anyone else you like?"

Garry: "No not exacrtly. I just want to remain single for a while anyway. There is...someone....but - well it wouldn't be any use."

Belinda: "No...it wouldn't be any use...I know. I just wish Neville were more like you".

Garry: "What's he done now?"
